On National Housing Day join Parkdale residents and our supporters to demand action!

  • Declare "NO" to Lifetime Development's proposed condominium development of 703 luxury units, with not one unit of affordable housing or affordable commercial space.
  • Demand "EQUITABLE DEVELOPMENT" that builds on the inherent social, cultural and economic values of the local community: Diversity, Inclusion, Affordability and Equity.
  • Demand "DEVELOPMENT WITHOUT DISPLACEMENT" of low- to middle-income residents, newcomers, racialized communities, and psychiatric survivors.

Why Meet At King & Dufferin?
King & Dufferin has become a contentious site in Parkdale. Lifetime Developments plans to build 703 luxury residential condominium units and 10 commercial units. Not a single unit will be affordable. On National Housing Day we demand that all large developments include affordable housing!

This proposal comes in the middle of a housing crisis. In Parkdale, tenants and local businesses are already being priced out and displaced. This development will have dangerous ripple effects including increasing speculation, increasing rents and displacement. As Councilor Gord Perks stated "this new condominium development doesn't provide answers [to affordable housing], in fact it makes things worse."

We as a community have voiced significant concerns about the negative impact that the development. These concerns are synthesized in this petition signed by over 633 people. Despite our opposition, on Tuesday November 14th Toronto and East York Community Council has accepted City Planning’s recommendation to approve the rezoning application for 1182-1221 King St W. This is an indication that our housing and  land use planning system is broken. Even Councilor Perks has stated that the current system “guarantee(s) that inclusive neighbourhoods are under threat and under siege in the city of Toronto."

In the long term we are committed to fighting for legislative change. But in the short term we call on Parkdale residents and supporters to join us in the streets so say "Not in Our Life Time!"

We need Affordable Housing Now!
